I’m on the second day of a pet-sit with a great little dog named Zach and his brother (a kitty). Zach has allergies that can get pretty bad so he is on medication for them. He is known to rub his ears and chew his feet when his allergies are really acting up.
In just the short time I’ve been here I see how he loves his rawhide chew toy and engages in play time when he has it. As I’ve been playing around with him and paying attention to his behavior, I have been noticing how he seems to have a tendency to periodically lick his paws for a long period of time after playing around with this rawhide toy.
Well it occurred to me that perhaps this rawhide chew is a contributor to his allergies. I don’t know, I am not a vet. But, I remembered reading and learning about the hazards of rawhide chews and the havoc they can cause for pets. Which is why they don’t exist in our dog’s list of toys or treats.
So I am taking the opportunity while it’s top of mind for me to post some information about rawhide chews and bones.
Here are just a few more of the resources I have gathered information from…
